Innovative Reading Program Grant
Background
A special feature of the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading is the Innovative Reading Program
Grants aimed at furthering the love of reading in Utah libraries, schools, and homes.
Through this special application process, a tax-exempt program or school may present
details of an existing or new program in terms of its goals, implementation approaches,
and outcomes. During the “For the Love of Reading” conference three innovative programs
will be recognized and the first-place program will be invited to present their program
at the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading—For the Love of Reading Conference.
Three innovative reading programs will be awarded with the first place program receiving
the $1000.00 grant, second place $500 and third place $500.
Personnel representing the first place program will present their program on Friday
September 20th, 2013 at the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading conference.

Selection Criteria
Nomination Procedure

Any tax-exempt program or school within the state of Utah may submit a nomination
for the Innovative Reading Program Award. Nominations will be accepted through Thursday,
July 18. The programs selected will be announced publicly at a special dinner on September
19, 2013 at the Chateaux Resort, Deer Valley, Utah. NOTE: The application deadline has been extended to August 9, 2013.

Compose a written submission (no longer than 4 pages in length) that provides the
following information:
- Your name and contact information.
- State the nomination is for the “UVU Forum on Engaged Reading: For the Love of Reading
Innovative Reading Program Award”.
- Name of the program. Name and location of the school or library. Names and titles
of the program organizers/deliverers. How long the program has been in existence.
- Why was the program developed? What need was it designed to satisfy? How has that
need been recognized?
- What are the goals and objectives of the program?
- How was the program designed? Who participated in designing it?
- How does the program operate? What are its main elements or processes?
- How is the program unique or unusual? In what ways has the program been creative or
innovative?
- Describe the challenges you have overcome.
- What impact has the program had? To what extent has it achieved its objectives? How
have program outcomes been evaluated? What data have been collected and what do the
data show?
- Define the ease of replicating this program in other educational settings. What advice
would you give to others trying to replicate it?
Selection Committee
- The Selection Committee, with representatives from librarians and teachers, will recommend
three programs to the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading; Love of Reading conference planning
committee, which will make the final selection.

Timeline
- May 2013: Selection Committee issues call for nominations
July 18, 2013: Deadline for nominations. NOTE: The application deadline has been extended to August 9, 2013.
July 18 – August 15, 2013: Nomination review
August 15: Grantees will be notified.
September 19, 2013: Grantees honored at the Awards Program dinner during the 2013
UVU Forum on Engaged Reading.
September 20, 2013: First place grant recipients make a presentation about their program
at the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading.
