Engaged School Librarian Award

Background

The Utah Valley University Forum on Engaged Reading presents the UVU School Librarian/Media Specialist Award annually to a librarian employed in a school library whose contributions motivate and engage readers in a life-long love of reading. The awardee and nominees are recognized at the annual For the Love of Reading conference, and the school employing the Engaged School Librarian will be awarded $500.

Eligibility

Librarians working with children or teens in a Utah school library are eligible. Nominees must currently be working full-time or part-time. Nominees who have made significant contributions in the recent past may also be considered. A librarian may receive the award only once.

Nomination

Anyone may nominate a librarian working a school library for the School Librarian/Media Specialist Award.  Nominators should submit a completed nomination form and a letter of nomination (two pages maximum).  Letters should discuss how the nominee's accomplishments impact children’s or teen’s love of reading.

Selection Criteria

The award recognizes excellence for librarianship in a school library, especially as it benefits children or teens and their enjoyment of reading and the library environment through innovative approaches to professional practice, programming, and/or teaching and learning. Additional factors include creativity, leadership, and service.
